Our Story
The McBean community is located in the southern part of Richmond county approximately twenty miles from downtown Augusta. In 1735, groups of immigrants from the Scottish Highlands near Inverness, Scotland were sent by the trustees of the colonies to areas near Savannah and Augusta. Provisions and a land grant were presented to each man willing to fight the Spanish, and later the Indians, in defense of the colony. One of these frontiersmen was Locklan McBean, who was awarded a town lot in Augusta and 500 acres of "choice land" outside Augusta. Our community is named after Locklan McBean who came here from Scotland in 1796. Land was cleared on Hephzibah-McBean Road and our school was built at a cost of $5.9 million. McBean Elementary replaced Floyd Graham Elementary School. Furniture, equipment, and materials were moved over the Christmas holidays. The staff and 326 students relocated to the new McBean Elementary School on January 12, 1998.

College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is Georgia’s statewide accountability system. The CCRPI assesses how well students are prepared for college and careers, and ensures that schools are focused on improving achievement among all students. The index measures student achievement on indicators such as content mastery, student growth on progress, subgroup performance on closing gaps, and various areas including Lexile performance, attendance, and other academic based measurements. Schools earn CCRPI points based on indicators that vary by grade and school level and align with measures of college- and career-readiness. Each individual component score is on a scale of 0-100.
